About Marc Dumont

MARC’S GOAL:

To provide effective and sustainable plans for property owners while minimizing the loss of life to beavers and maximizing the health of lakes, rivers and streams.

Marc’s initial introduction to the plight of beavers and landowners was quite by accident – the actions of beavers on his property required professional intervention.

While some landowners might be tempted to simply remove and/or exterminate the creatures, Marc was inspired to find a creative solution. This quest ultimately propelled him to learn about the critical importance of these animals.

Today, Marc Dumont is a trained professional in environmental management dedicated to protecting the environment while fostering conscientious development.

Based in Alberta, Canada and bilingual in English and French, Marc has dedicated himself to environmental monitoring and wetland restoration, with a specialization in beaver-human conflict mitigation.

When he becomes a Beaver Institute graduate and joins the Beaver Corps, Marc will be prepared to do site visits and assessments.

He can introduce a number of creative solutions to landowners, including the use of exclusion fencing, flow devices and removal. In addition to an understanding of conflict mitigation methods, Marc is also gaining an in-depth understanding of beaver behavior and habitat, and their roles in nature.

All of this knowledge will help him protect properties while fostering the integrity of watersheds and the protection of wildlife.

He earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University of Alberta, where he first developed the focus, organization and prioritization that would propel him throughout his career.

Since then, Marc has expanded his skill set in several important ways:

  • He earned his Environmental Monitoring Certificate through the University of Northern British Columbia.
  • He attained his certification as a drone pilot, which will allow him to understand and react to property issues more quickly and effectively.
  • He is currently working toward his graduation from the Beaver Institute, where he will receive a Professional Training Certificate of Completion and advance his goal of becoming a professional beaver control specialist.
